Cohesion in the Narrative Writing of Young EFL Learners: Correct and Incorrect Use of Local Cohesive Ties

This study examines the correct and incorrect use of local cohesive ties cohesion errors in written narratives eleven- to twelve-year-old Spanish learners English as a Foreign Language (EFL) at different proficiency levels. The was carried out with pairs who collaboratively wrote narrative text response picture prompt. young learners’ texts were examined identify their four categories: lexical, referential, conjunctive temporal cohesion. results show that higher lower are significantly causal conjunction because, personal pronouns noun phrases containing possessive, definite, indefinite zero determiners. two groups also differ pronouns, simple verb forms Attention is drawn need explore diversity some pedagogical implications drawn.
